This tutorial will make you aware how to use anchor points for aligning a design.

Understand this first:
1. You can access the anchor points from the Transform palette (or the horizontal quick menu in some recent versions of Illustrator)
2. The aligning of objects using Anchor Points works only when numeric values (x, y coordinates)
are entered into the Transform Palette. (i.e., choosing an anchor point and aligning it with Align palette will not work.)
Know the Artboard:
Let’s go through an example of a default coordinate system on a 400 X 400px Illustrator artboard. Since you must use the (x, y) coordinate system to enjoy this feature, it’s important to familiarise with it.

Example 1:
Try this example. Choose (from the Transform palette) the bottom left anchor point. Enter in the x and y coordinates (0, 0) and you will get a shape perfectly aligned to the bottom left corner. You can perform this with the Align palette too but not in the next one.

Example 2:
Choose the centre anchor point and align the object to the upper left corner by entering a 0(zero) x value, and 400 y value. Now the circle’s exact centre is exactly aligned to the upper left corner. This amount of control is great for making seamless patterns. And seamless patterns are file-size reducers, as well as time savers in most cases.
