In this Illustrator tutorial I will show you how to make a colourful cocktail icon.
Step 1
Open a new document and draw a rectangle of the same size of the art board. Lock the background layer.

Step 2
Choose the Pen Tool (P) and draw a path that will be a half of the glass. Give this line a 2pt white stroke and no fill.
![]()
Copy the path and reflect it to make a glass. Move the copy to the left a bit if the glass is too wide.
![]()
Choose both the paths and click the Unite in the Pathfinder palette to make it one single path.
![]()
![]()
Without leaving the selection navigate to Object > Path > Offset Path. Enter -8 pixels as Offset value and press Enter.
![]()
![]()
Choose the Scissors Tool (C) and click on the anchor points highlighted in the image below.
Delete the path at the right, that we have just cut.
![]()
Step 3
Choose the main glass path and select the Offset Path command. Set -15 pixels as the Offset value.
![]()
Choose the Delete Anchor Point Tool (-) and delete the lower part of the new path.
![]()
Choose the Rectangle Tool (M) and draw a rectangle that intersects the smallest path.
Choose the smallest path and the rectangle. Then, press Minus Front in the Pathfinder palette.
![]()
Apply a linear, vertical gradient.
![]()
Choose this path and navigate to Effect > Stylize > Inner Glow and enter the following settings.

Using Star Tool, draw a small star somewhere near the glass. Use Eyedropper Tool to apply the same gradient we used for the ice but make it radial.
Choose the star and navigate to Effect > Stylize > Round Corners and enter 5 pixel as Radius value.
![]()
Make three copies of this star and place them on the glass.
![]()
Step 5
Using the Pen Tool (P) draw a straw. Move the straw sublayer under the ice sublayer.
![]()
Draw a circle on the straw using the Ellipse Tool (L). Click on the liquid with the Eyedropper Tool (I) to apply the same settings to the circle and then make the gradient radial.
Draw another smaller white circle.
Navigate to Effect > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the Radius to 30 pixels.

Step 6
Using the Pen Tool draw white highlights on the glass.
![]()
Draw a white highlight on the circle and set it's opacity to 70%.
